Daniel K. Leavitt was raised in Blackfoot, Idaho where he lived until he graduated from Blackfoot High School in 1989. It was during this time that he was inspired to teach by the influence of his choir teacher, Mrs. Susan Mann.
Danny attended Idaho State University where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education in 2001. While at ISU, he participated in Concert Choir and Chamber Choir under the direction of Dr. Scott Anderson. As a member of these choirs, Danny had the opportunity to travel and sing in many countries. Among the 14 countries he has toured, his favorite trip was visiting Brazil, where he studied under the direction of Weston Nobel, who invited ISU’s Chamber Choir to serve as an example choir for the Brazilian National Choral Association. These experiences inspired Danny to continue his education and in 2014, he earned a Master’s Degree in HRTD from ISU.
Currently, Danny is teaching choir at Hawthorne Middle School and has for the last 15 years, boasting a program of over 300 students. He is a 15 time nominee and two time finalist for Simplot Teacher of the year. Danny has also served many times as a talent show and choir festival judge. In addition to his love of music, Danny has coached basketball and wrestling at Hawthorne for the last 14 years. Danny is married to the love of his life Johanna for the past 20 years and together they have four children. When Danny has free time, he enjoys spending it with his children watching Netflix and playing video games.
